For the third time, the Car of the Year was elected at the International Geneva Motor Show: the Peugeot 308 won by a clear advance of its competitors BMW i3, Citroën C4 Picasso, Mazda 3, Mercedes Classe S, Skoda Octavia and Tesla Model S.
This year’s Geneva International Motor Show will open its doors to the public from March 6-16, 2014. During two days before the opening, more than 10,000 media representatives from all over the world will be participating in some 65 press conferences presented by all the major automobile manufacturers. The President of the Swiss Confederation, Mr. Didier Burkhalter, will officially open this 84th edition. The programme for this year includes some 900 vehicles for today and for tomorrow, a test track for electric cars, a wonderful array of vehicles on display, and a retrospective of the 90 years of that most mythical of automobile races: the Le Mans 24 Hours race. 700,000 visitors will be attending this not-to-be-missed annual event.
The 84th Geneva International Motor Show, which runs from March 6-16, 2014 and will be welcoming some 700,000 visitors, will be presenting an exceptional exhibition this year. With the collaboration of the ACO (Automobile Club de l’Ouest), who organizes the Le Mans 24 Hours Race, and sponsored by Rolex, the official timekeeper of the event, a special display will bring together 20 former Le Mans race cars which will trace the history of this greatest of all automobile races in the world.
The Geneva International Motor Show was the first international motor show to dedicate an exhibition area specifically for vehicles powered by alternatives to petrol and by renewable energies: The Green Pavilion which began in 2009. Today, all the large manufacturers have included these low emission vehicles in their product lines. As a result, beginning last year, these vehicles have re-joined the stands of their respective brands, as they are no longer oddities but have become part of their mainstream offerings. This year the visitors who are interested in these technologies can find a brochure presenting all of the vehicles that emit less than 95 grams of CO2 per kilometre. This document has been produced by the Motor Show and SwissEnergy.
Four weeks before the opening of the Geneva International Motor Show the automobile world is preparing for one of its most important events where 250 exhibitors will be presenting their latest offerings. In addition, some 65 press conferences will take place during the two Press Days that precede the opening to the public. At the moment the stands are being built and exceptional artistic and technical skills are being employed in their construction and decoration. The Motor Show will open to the public from March 6-16, 2014.
For the third consecutive year, the Car of the Year will be announced just before the opening of the Press Days at the Geneva International Motor Show. The two institutions with long histories, the Geneva International Motor Show (more than 100 years) and the Car of the Year Committee (more than 50 years) will come together for this important event. This year the competition will be particularly intense and the 7 models on the final list will ensure a very difficult final selection for the jury.
The Geneva International Motor Show is already in preparation to welcome the public from March 6 – 16, 2014 to the exhibition halls of Palexpo. This event constitutes one of the most import and the most attractive showcases for the automobile world. The organisers are particularly focused on the comfort of the visitors in terms of the ease of preparing their visits, including the purchase of entry tickets online, facilitating their arrival to Palexpo as well as ensuring their eating requirements are well catered for during their visit.
For once the publicity graphic design for the 84th Geneva International Motor Show (March 6-16, 2014 at Palexpo in Geneva) was not created by an advertising agency or publicity group as has been the custom in the past. This year it was created by the Geneva School of Art and Design (Haute école d’art et de design - Genève). The organisers wanted to give this opportunity to the designers of the future. The competition was won by Fermin Guerrero, a third year student majoring in visual communication. His creation underscores movement and dynamics, key values of the automobile sector.
